This instructional assumes basic computer and networking knowledge.
Step 1) Download the following file and unzip the contents to a new folder on your C:\ Drive called "STBdaemon" ie c:\STBdaemon Click here
Step 2) Navigate to the folder in which you extracted the STBDaemon102.exe file
Step 3) Right click on the file and select the option "Create Shortcut"
Step 4) Click and Drag the file into your Start > Programs > Startup folder. This will make STBdaemon start up automatically when you log into your computer.
Step 5) Return to the folder in which you extracted the STBDaemon102.exe file and double click on the file.
Step 6) When STBdaemon opens, click the "Browse" button and locate a folder not located within a protected folder to share ie: c:\my_downloaded_movies
Step 7) Ensure you have followed the Network Setup instructions in your strong manual and also followed instructions for creating a new network link in the file browser (Chapter 6.6 section :"File Manager (Transferring Files from your SRT 5495A to a PC)" - Note : DONT USE DHCP on either the computer you are connecting to OR yopur strong. Manually set your IP address on both devices.
*****Troubleshooting.
1) When selecting a shared folder from your strong PVR, you may notice your computer firewall asking if you wish to allow connections, please accept all connections from your Strong PVR.
2) The first time you try to connect to a remote PC through your strong, you will notice a message saying "Communicating with the server". At this stage, the firewall on the PC you are connecting to will ask if you would like to accept the connection. Please accept the connection. Note you may also need to add a firewall rule for STBdaemon.exe although this should be handled automatically by your Firewall software.
3) ***IMPORTANT If you have added a firewall rule and now see a message stating "Network not ready" when trying to select your remote PC from your strong device, simply UNPLUG the Strong PVR at the back and plug it in again. Your should now be able to see the contents of the folder you shared in Step 6.
4) From time to time, you may encounter a message stating "Network Not Ready" on your Strong. When this occurs, check the PC you are connecting to has not asked for a Firewall exception (accept the request if asked) and then Turn your Strong box off and then on again.. We have only tried this by removing the power cord and replacing it. I can not verify if simply pressing the front power button will have the same effect.
5) If all else fails, disable your firewall on your PC, unplug and replug in your strong and try to connect again. If this works, it is an idication you have not correctly added your firewall rule. Re-enable your Firewall and check the rules for your strong thoroughly.
Checklist:
Basically, if you have added a firewall rule, your network cable is connected and you are still getting a message "Network not ready" : Unplug your strong and plug it in again.
